As some of you know I’m a bit of a sucker for packaging. But especially tins, those shiny, impossible to open, mediterranean sardine tins with wonderful colours and script and a ‘Key’ to open them.
Or old fashioned Colmans Mustard tins, cans of olive oil wrapped with Art Nouveau damsels, olive tins painted with plump green olives stuffed with pimento.
The best tins are undoubtedly for those fineky fish fillets. I spotted three fabulous examples yesterday with nostalgic paintings of cornish fishermen and women. I was very tempted to buy them despite being filled with pilchards. Who eats pilchards?
I love decorating my kitchen with food tins and experimenting with the contents. I’m about to
start making tapas inspired by these fabulous tins of Pimenton, complete with kitsch religious imagery.
