Kettners Laurent Perrier Champagne Flight Afternoon Tea

Kettner’s Laurent Perrier Champagne Flight Afternoon Tea

Kettner’s has been a bastion of buzzing, vibrant  and glamorous Soho in London for  one hundred and forty eight years.  Celebrated for it’s risqué parties, it has always attracted the famous and infamous, Agatha Christie, Noel Coward and more recently John Galliano.  it’s now a Brasserie, Champagne and Cocktail Bar and has eight private rooms for hire.

Kettner’s was a favourite haunt of mine for a coupe or five when I was living in London. It’s still my first choice for meeting up with old friends who want the flavour of the elegance and chic of the Big City.  When Karen from Lavender and Lovage invited me as her Plus One to try Kettner’s new Afternoon Tea with Laurent Perrier Champagne Flight, I was only too delighted to be back in my old haunt.

Laid out in the ground floor room, just beyond the bar, filled with luxurious plush sofas and high buttoned banquettes, it was a wonderfully intimate atmosphere to learn a little of the history of Kettner’s and the story of Laurent Perrier.  We eagerly eyed the beautiful turret of tea, dainty delights in shades of red and pink formed the top layer, round shiny scones with thick clotted cream and delicious strawberry jam on the second tier and on the bottom layer plump, fresh finger sandwiches from the classic cucumber to a delicious smoked chicken mango and mint.

Learning About Laurent Perrier Champagne

Danny Borchert, Business Development Executive for Laurent Perrier poured our first glass of Ultra Brut and explained about the dosage (sugar). Ultra Brut (Extra Dry)  doesn’t have any added sugar, making it crystal clear, light, fresh and only sixty five calories a glass.  It’s said to be a favourite of Kate Moss.  It paired wonderfully with the selection of savoury sandwiches, an aroma of honeysuckle and fresh fruit and mineral flavours.  Perfect with the smoked salmon and cream cheese.

Next in our flight was the Cuvée Rosé, almost salmon pink in colour with a fragrance of berries and the flavour of fresh strawberries and wild cherries.  Perfect with the wonderful light scones, cream and jam.  Our final glass was a real treat, Vintage 2004, it’s not often I drink vintage champagne, so to have it as part of the Champagne tea was wonderful.  Golden yellow with fine bubbles, with an aroma of candied pineapple and plums.  The flavour had a hint of white peach, just right for pairing with the wonderful mini cakes, dainty, fruit filled delicacies just perfect with the lovely vintage champagne.

I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon delight, a wonderful tea, fabulous champagne, great service and a chance to catch up with a wonderful friend.

That sounds amazing and I do love the history the building has. What a wonderful way to catch up with a friend. I once was given a bottle of Laurent-Perrier Champagne. I loved it’s pink hue. It’s the only time I’ve ever had a glass of that champagne. Wish I could meet you at Kettners! xx

It does look like a lovely tea and I am a big fan of LP ultra Brut. Not so sure about Kettners now though, I keep going back there and being disappointed, though your tea looks fab. Maybe it’s just my memories of when the place was owned by the original Pizza Express Team and the champagne was about half the price of anywhere else in town.

There is also a tunnel which the then King used to meet his mistress Lilly Langtree after she had finished at the nearby theatre. GG

I’m not much for the champagne obviously, but boy do I miss the afternoon tea in London. ***sigh*** American places trying to do an English tea is disappointment at it’s greatest.
This looks so much fun and the tea…gorgeous!

Oh how glam! Love a good high tea, especially if they serve you pretty pink vintage bubbles. What does Millionaires Shortbread taste like?
